October 20, 2014

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays because of it’s general fun’ness. 🙂 Yes, that is a made up word. But as I struggle every year to come up with cool and unique costume ideas I realize how awesome this holiday is. Here are just 10 fun pop-culture halloween costume ideas for you. Enjoy!

1. That girl you wished you wouldn’t have started a conversation with at a party

Halloween Idea 2014 - SNL That Girl

If you haven’t seen this segment on Saturday Night Live’s Weekend Update…stop what you are doing and watch this.

2. Tight Pants

Halloween Idea 2014 - Tight Pants

The tight pants skit on Jimmy Fallon show is one of my favorites to watch.

It’s up there with “Eww”.

3. Iggy Azalea

Halloween Idea 2014 - Iggy Azalea

I just love Iggy. Her style is a little out there for me which makes for a perfect halloween costume. Do it up!

4. Tris from Divergent

Halloween Idea 2014 - Divergent

One of my favorite characters this year is Tris. She is brave and not afraid of her fears. Wish I was like her.

5. The Great Gatsby

Halloween Idea 2014 - The Great Gatsby

This is just plain fun. You don’t even need to see the movie, just work the angle of the 1920s.

6. Fifty Shades of Grey

>Halloween Idea 2014 - Fifty Shades of Grey

A fun couple costume! Just bring some handcuffs and a riding crop and most will understand who you are!

7. Michonne from Walking Dead

Halloween Idea 2014 - Michonne

I have to say, Michonne is one of my favorite characters ever. She is amazing and has the best weapon for the zombie apocalypse.

You know what to do.

9. Wyldstyle

Halloween Idea 2014 - Wyldstyle Lego Movie

Put on the black wig with extensions and you are set to become Wyldstyle. She is fun and goofy…so do as she would and get silly.

10. Minecraft Steve

Halloween Idea 2014 - Minecraft Steve

Minecraft Steve is the best and probably the easiest of the costumes. Head to target and grab a head, torch, and axe and you’re all set.

5 Easy DIY Pop Culture Costumes 2013

October 7, 2013

Having troubles deciding what to be for Halloween? If you’re like me, you don’t even want to go to those Halloween stores, those costumes are too slutty (for lack of better word). I prefer to keep my Halloween costume costs down and usually opt for a DIY costume. Here are just 5 easy costumes for you to create in 2013!

What about you? What are you planning on being for Halloween?

Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Audrey Hepburn

If this year you are looking to turn back the clock, look no further than Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This elegant costume is quite easy to pull off.

You’ll need…

  • Black pencil dress
  • Chunk pearl necklace
  • Diamond earrings and tiara
  • Black gloves
  • Old fashion cigarette
  • Black flats

Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead

Daryl Dixon

Daryl is probably my favorite Walking Dead character. He is brave, smart, and easy on the eyes. This costume is uber relevant and works for most guys…as long as you can get your hands on a cross bow (which makes this costume). Make sure you keep that cross bow unloaded though, okay?

You’ll need…

  • Tank top (roll around in dirt to get that dirty look)
  • Jeans
  • Boots
  • Cross bow
  • A badass attitude

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

Daenerys Targaryen Halloween Costume

She is the true queen, we all know it. Plus, she has dragons! This makes her my hero on Game of Thrones. Of course, you’ll need a good wig with some braids for this costume. Find yourself a goddess dress to wear or grab some fabric from your local store and start sewing as a goddess dress is pretty easy to make.

You’ll need…

  • Goddess dress
  • Arm bracelets
  • Goddess shoes
  • Blonde long wig
  • Dragon toy

Minecraft Creeper

Creeper Minecraft Costume

I have found an odd love for Minecraft. Not a typical gamer, I find the game awesome and full of endless opportunity. Creepers are a game “mob,” they find you and come close and blow up in front of you…sometimes causing you to die. This costume is so much fun because it doesn’t take much.

You’ll need…

  • Green cami or dress
  • Black leggings
  • Minecraft head – DIY or buy online
  • Black booties

Stacee Jaxx from Rock Of Ages

Stacee Jaxx Halloween Costume

This one is fun for the guys, you can walk around all night acting like a rock star! Yeah!! Honestly though, you’ll probably want to start doing those push-ups and crunches to get the Stacee Jaxx abs.

You’ll need…

  • Leather pants
  • Fur jacket (try Goodwill)
  • Sun glasses
  • Scarf
  • Belt buckle
  • Bandana
  • Fake Tattoos (unless you already have them)

Nerdy Halloween Costume Ideas

October 17, 2012

Halloween can be a really fun night, if you do it right. If you are like me, you are a bit of a nerd and tend to obsess over making the perfect costume. Last year, the B Man and I were in New York for Halloween so we didn’t celebrate, at work or anywhere else. This year for work, the Marketing team is collaborating on a secret department-wide costume. I can’t wait to post pictures.

If you like Star Trek, Doctor Who, Totorro, all things “nerd”…then check out these ideas:

Chris Hardwick

Chris Hardwick has to be one of my favorite comedians, and of course, NERDS! He wrote the book, The Nerdist Way, and is straight up awesome. If you listen to his podcast, watch him on Talking Dead, or just like his style, consider being him for Halloween! I know if I were a dude, I totes would! **Note: Don’t forget to bring burritos to hand out to everyone.**

Catwoman

DIY Catwoman Costume

Does it get any hotter than tight pleather? Catwoman is all the rage this year with The Dark Knight Rises being such a hit. But she is so much more than a hip hollywood movie. Her love/hate relationship with Batman has produced many great stories. She is so badass that any lady who wants to be considered nerdy should dress as her this year.

Katniss Everdeen

Costume Idea: Katniss Everdeen

I am still obsessed with these books and any obsession = nerd! Katniss is a truly brave girl who even in a time of grave danger always thrives. To completely embody Katniss, you must be quite, collected, and yell “I VOLUNTEER” all Halloween. I don’t make the rules.

9th Doctor

I really only know one Doctor and so far, I love him. If you are already a whovian, consider halloween this year as the ninth doctor! If you have never seen Dr. Who before, it’s time. Turn on Netflix, grab some popcorn, and press play. Then you’ll want to be the doctor!

Star Trek

Star Trek

I love Star Trek, and while I am more of a Next Generation girl, I love the outfits of the early 60’s! This DIY outfit would be perfect for someone on a budget.

What is your idea of the perfect nerdy costume?
