May The Odds Be Ever in Your Favor

When you think about your favorite book series, what is the first thought that comes to your mind? Do you wish you were in that world? Are you jealous of the main character? Do you think about reading it again? When I think of the Hunger Games, I think of what great writing can do for our lives.

I am always shocked with the creative minds in our world. They create whole new worlds. In Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling created the wizarding world that we know as Hogwarts. In Star Wars, we are transferred to a whole new place with wookies. In the Hunger Games, we find ourselves in a world where life for a teenager is lived in fear. Fear of being chosen out of clear glass bowl. This fate leads to a fight to the death with others. This world, is one of major complexities and amazing story lines.

In speaking of complexities, look at this map of Panem (the districts and capital of the ‘world’ after whatever happened to the world we know now).

If you haven’t read these books, you should. They are truly unique views of Suzanne Collins. She transformed the world we know and made harsh and difficult, yet you can’t put the book down. You can’t pull yourself away from the train wreck. Life in the districts pulls you in and makes you feel for those who live in them.

Am I obsessed with these books? Yeah, a little. But you will be to if you choose to pick them up. If you need a visual the movie for the Hunger Games comes out in the U.S. on March 23rd, 2012! And I cannot wait.
