Using Trello to Organize and Plan Your Blog

March 7, 2012

Trello is one of my favorite tools to organize my blog content. I recently found out about this cool tool during through a co-worker and ever since then, I have been using it for personal, work, my blog. I am excited to share with you, my fellow bloggers, how to use it and how it will help your blog.

Getting Started

After setting up your account, start your first “board.” A board is a just a collection of lists (and lists hold the cards). You’ll probably want a board for each project you’re working on. Specifically for blogging, you could have a board for blog ideas, blog editorial calendar, and maybe even a board for blog enhancements and ideas.

Then you will create cards for individual tasks inside a board. The best part about this is you can upload attachments, assign a user, add dues dates, and make a checklist. This is perfect for an editorial calendar. For instance, you can upload your word document with the blog content and add due dates for your individual blog posts.

Adding Collaborators

If you are a team of bloggers, trello will make your life a lot easier. You can set up ideas for blogs, and then assign them to individual board members. You can comment and discuss the posts with edits in them.

It’s incredibly easy to invite people to a board, and then they will also receive notifications once on the board.

Mobile Friendly

Because of its responsive design, it works well on any mobile device. But they also have an iPhone app!

Staying Up-To-Date

What is even better about Trello is they are constantly growing and improving their product. They listen to their users and make adjustments as needed. They have a blog where they share best- practices, tips, and improvements.

How To Get Started With Pinterest

January 23, 2012

Pinterest is a new social media site that allows you to bookmark images from around the web. It’s one of my favorite websites and I spend way too much time on it.

“Pinterest is a virtual pinboard. Pinterest allows you to organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. You can browse pinboards created by other people to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.” – Pinterest

Get Started

Set Up Your Account
First and foremost, you need to sign up for a Pinterest account. At this time, you still need an invite to Pinterest, but if you shoot me a message, I will invite you. Head over there and set up your account.

Get The “Pin It” Button
This button will be places in your bookmarks or on your bookmarks bar. It allows you to take images that you find on various websites and save them to your pinboard, also known as a ‘board.’

Make Your First Pin
Let’s say you find a cute pair of shoes that you want but can’t afford right now. You don’t want to forget them, so pin it. Click the pin button on your bookmarks bar. Then choose the board you would like to store it in. You can also make a new board while pinning. Create a description, add the price. And click save!

Find Friends
If you connected to Facebook and Twitter, you can find your friends from those sites and follow their boards and pins, also. This will give you the option to see what they are doing and looking for online. It’s just a fun way to stay connected.

Repinning
If you find a pin from a friend or during a search that you like, you can repin it. What that means is that you want to put it on one of your boards. This is really easy. Above each pin is a button called repin. It’s as easy as making a pin.

Now that you have basic understanding of pinterest, go crazy. It’s fun and it will keep your life online organized.

Photos: Red Bull Crashed Ice Championship 2012

January 15, 2012

I can’t believe how fast this week/ weekend has gone. I spent Friday night in the freezing Minnesota cold. St. Paul hosted the first ever Red Bull Crashed Ice in the US this past weekend, and I don’t know what took them so long to come here. It was awesome! 🙂

Thanks to my dad, I got a media pass and was able to get some insanely cool shots:

I spent the first half of the event talking to a very kind Finnish woman, named Heidi. She explained the ins and outs of the event. She had been shooting photos for the event since 2008. She was such an asset to have around. She explained how the event worked, and what the heck was going on.

And after I got a decent amount of good shots, I decided to move down so I could be near the finish. You would not believe how packed it was. No one was moving, at all! I was trying to get down but it was a million bodies and no one was moving. Finally I got as close to the fence as I possibly could and made my way to a media area. I must admit, that was an adventure in itself.

Crashed Ice was amazing! I can’t believe what the athletes do and how they can handle falling so hard on ice! EEEK! I don’t know if I could do it.

Shooting Gear:
Canon 7D
75-300 EF 75-300 mm f/4-5.6 III (I wish I could have had something faster)
